Q. How does the Tinnitus Phase-Out™ system work?

A. The treatment works through the phase-shifting of sound waves, which employs principles similar to those used in sound cancellation applications such as noise- canceling headphones and industrial noise reduction. Patients are evaluated in-office and then are provided a customized portable treatment solution, which they can use for home-based therapy.

Q. What type of tinnitus does this treatment address?

A. Tinnitus Phase-Out™ is designed to address predominant-tone tinnitus or those patients who perceive their tinnitus at a single pitch.

Q. What degree of success has this treatment had?

A. Recent clinical studies have shown a positive response rate of 83% among study participants. In addition, more than 350 patients have now been treated with the protocol and the overwhelming majority have experienced positive outcomes.

Q. Are there any tests required?

A. Patients are required to have had a recent examination by an ENT physician to exclude conditions that can be surgically or medically treated. In addition, patients are required to have had a recent audiogram.

Q. What is the length of the treatment program?

A. Patients undergo twice-yearly in-office evaluation visits and employ their patient treatment devices at home on an as-needed basis.

Q. Are there any side effects of this treatment?

A. In more than 6 years of testing and commercial application, there have been no significant complications.

Q. Is this treatment covered by insurance?

A. Your evaluation by an ENT physician and a hearing test by an audiologist are typically covered by insurance providers. Although specific elements of the treatment program may be covered, insurance is unlikely to cover the majority of the cost. We will provide you with the specific CPT codes that you may receive coverage on from your insurance company.
